eBook Readers and Oh, Yeah, Passion...

The Passion Test: The Effortless Path to Discovering Your Life Purpose

Passionate people burn up faster.

That's why when it comes to cooking, using the slow and consistent glow of a blue flame is better at getting the job done than a super nova heated white fire.

It's been 24 days since I last wrote here and my, my, a lot has happened really. I've got a gazillion pictures and hours of videos to edit about what has been happening over at resort ville, but found myself terribly conflicted.

Fate, destiny, calling are some of the most overrated words that have floated about the consciousness of mankind ever since he was able to invent well, words. They don't take into light the myriad of possibilities and alternative instances that each course of action could take.

Fire

Anyway, back to Earthly matters, I have set myself with the goal of procuring a wireless electronic reading device for my kid's upcoming birthday. The kindle is a shoo-in but my sister told me that it takes 3 months for anything to ship out from Amazon.com. Come to think about it, the only things that I purchase online are domains. I haven't actually bought any solid thing online.

My daughter's really understanding and didn't persist with suggestions of an iPad or so. She just told me,

"Anything's "ok" dad, as long as I can read books on it."

Kindle 3G Wireless Reading Device, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 3G Works Globally, Graphite, 6" Display with New E Ink Pearl Technology

With that said, I have my eyes on something more economical and iPad-ish with a relatively lower price tag. To my surprise, Amazon.com has it!

I'm a gadget cheapskate and I'm not ashamed of it, but I'm actually contemplating this:

7" iRobot APad iPed Epad Google Android Tablet WIFI Touch Screen

It's an aPad from china-ipad.cn

It's sold by Texas Teknology (or is that Texas Instruments...? LOL)

Sometimes also called an ePad, it is for all intents and purposes an iPad Rip-Off. But who cares? It does what it's supposed to do, I think. So you can finally expect a gadget review from yours truly.

No I Didn't Buy a Horse

My mom arrived at 8:00 AM and the horse arrived at 10:00 AM.

She asked me, "What?! You bought a horse?"

I looked up and said, "Ummm, no..."

She asked me again.

"No..."

No that's Martin....

"Pay You to Blog" Cancelled

There comes a time in life when you simply have to admit, that something is wrong.

It took me precisely 93 days to realize that.

That's why I am cancelling the Pay You to Blog promotion.

However, I'm a firm believer that in every failure, there is a lesson to be learned.

Here are some insights that I've gleaned:

  • Using your blog as a jobs board will not work, except if you're really famous
  • To hire the creme dela creme, you must pay them 10x beyond industry standard
  • The most competent freelance writers have specializations - that's why the really good ones are hard to find.
    • Always hire a freelance writer based on his background.
  • People on the web are not too often keen on using their own names. (Duh! Facebook!)
  • I believe that the premise is still sound - maybe if this blog has more traffic.
  • People don't like reading very long requirements - count me as an exception.
It's been a wild ride and I would like to thank all those who have applied in the past and wish you all the best in your endeavors.

Dan's Buying a Website Guide

Serif WebPlus X4 [Download]Evolving Post [LAST UPDATED:04/01/2011]

AKA Dan's Website Due Diligence Guide

Let's be honest here, I have absolutely zero knowledge on how to buy websites. But the overall trend in some quarters is that blogs usually go for 2 to 3 digits (USD) in digitalpoint forums.

But wait, here's more. Don't be duped. Digitalpoint forums is like a dirty market of slick salesmen selling you snake oil that would cure anything and everything. You might find some diamonds in the rough but you really need to dig deep into the dirt, really deep, to find them.
