The 10 Most Valuable Pinoy Websites

Last Sunday, April 11, 2010 I've been scavenging the net for the best way possible to earn online and which Pinoys are making a killing on the make money online bandwagon. As usual I've been barraged with the usual retinue of Free Ebooks about SEO and Affiliate Marketing. I know you know the drill.

Click here, watch a goofy guy give you a long speech on why you want to earn money online, and get sold the same mantra over and over again.

I got tired at exactly 5:00 PM Philippine Time and that's when I thought of something. Short of their claims of earning thousands of thousands of Dollars online, then there must be a way to find how much these Pinoy Websites are earning online. By now, there must be pinoy online millionaires. This is my first attempt to find who these people are and guesstimate how much their websites are worth.

Disclaimer: Short of prying into their bank accounts or Income Tax Returns, there's not really a good way to determine how much these Pinoy Websites are really earning online.

Various factors affect the computation of the websites' respective values.
For our purposes, we're going to use three site value estimation websites:

These websites place a value on websites using different criteria. Just head on over to the respective websites to have a feel of how they estimate the value of a website.

Several other factors affect the real valuation of these websites. As you may have noticed, these websites, are mostly comprised of major mass media corporations. There's Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, GMA News, and ABS-CBN. These are not really the inspiring make money online startups that we'd like to see, but some of them are.

Observations:

  1. In Google's eyes, content is king. Therefore the websites with the most up to date and most reliable information are naturally those run by newspaper agencies with salaried news reporters and journalists.
  2. Though these media websites may be earning a lot in ad revenue, they still have to compensate their support staff. So most of these income may go to their journalists and reporters.
  3. It's interesting how sulit.com.ph has consistently topped the rankings. Personally, I find it annoying to search in Google and be brought by a link to a sulit.com.ph page with no relevant results. This website is now steadily going down in popularity even though it is still a dominant player.
  4. I have excluded two websites from the Philippine's Top Sites, namely ebay.ph and http://grou.ps/raven because ebay.ph is not a Pinoy Website and the latter, if I am not mistaken, is a subdomain.
